Foundation
On the 30th November, 1988 at the 19th Caribbean Water Engineers conference in
Montserrat, the Foundation Meeting of CWWA was held under the chairmanship of
Eng. Williams and the following were proposed and agreed upon:
The name of the organization would be the Cairibbean Water and Wastewater Asoociation (CWWA);
Membership would be open to all levels of workers in the fields of water supply and wastewater disposal; (workers in the field of solid waste management were included in 1994 at the Third Annual Conference in Jamaica]
The Association would be headquartered in Trinidad, and the members of the first Executive Council would be based in Trinidad to facilitate its establishment.
ASSOCIATION
During the years 1989-1991 the foundation of the Association was consolidated by the first President (Eng. Williams) and Vice President (Emmanuel Romain); and it was duty registered in the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (Act No-8 of l991: Passed in the Senate on 19th February, 1991; in the House of Representatives an 24th May, 1991; and assented to on 5th August 2991).
The Association's Mission Statement is: "To advance the science, practice and management of water supply and waste disposal for the benefit of Caribbean people through the development of human resources, public education, and professionalism as well as promotion of appropriate technologies in the water and waste sector."
The aims and objectives of the Association are:
To advance the science, practice and management of water supply and waste disposal for the benefit of Caribbean people;
To promote education and training in water supply and waste disposal to ensure an adequacy of trained manpower and well informed members of the public,
To encourage the study, research and development in water supply and waste disposal, and the publication of the results of such work, so as to provide for appropriate and dynamic technological advances in this field in the Caribbean.
